Considering the evaluation of Kennedy's speech, you are going to write a one-page argument essay that answers the following question:

Did President Kennedy make a reasonable argument for freedom through democracy?

Be sure that your claim is a clear statement that addresses this question. Now you can use your evaluation worksheet and collaboration with your peers to inform your argument. Remember that in a persuasive essay, you must choose a point of view and argue that it is valid. But just because you are choosing a point of view does not mean that your evidence can be haphazard. You must argue that, based on the facts, your opinion is correct. This means backing up your opinions with evidence from the text of the speech.

Throughout the essay, remember that your audience can be considered an educated, intelligent group of people – but they have not read the speech you have. Your task, then, is to inform them about the speech. Use formal academic language, rather than the language you would use to send a friend a text message or write an e-mail. Write in complete sentences, treat your audience as an intellectual equal, and carefully explain to them what your point of view is and why they should agree with you.
