If we divide by 2 both the numerator and the denominator, we will have:


t=\sqrt{(2d/2)/((9.8)/2)}


t=\sqrt{(d)/(4.9)}

b) From this equation:


t=\sqrt{(2d)/(9.8)}


t is the reaction time in seconds


d=44 cm (1 m)/(100 cm)=0.44 m is the distance


9.8 m/s^(2) is the acceleration due gravity

Solving:


t=\sqrt{(2(0.44 m))/(9.8 m/s^(2))}


t=0.299 s This is the reaction time
