Advantages and disadvantages of having classification system of mental disorders:
Advantages:
Once the disorder is
classified
, treating the patient
becomes easier
.
The
extent or the intensity
of the disorder can be determined from what class the disorder belongs to.
Different
levels of expertise
can be appointed to treat the patient depending on the class of the disorder.
Disadvantages:
Eventually, one or the other class of disorder would be started looking at as a
more serious disorder
.
The
approach
towards different classes of disorders would be
different
.
Standardised predetermined treatments
designed based on the class of disorder would sometimes not work on some patients.
