x = 9, y = 2

Explanation:

Given the 2 equations

x + 10y = 29 → (1)

x - y = 7 → (2)

Subtracting (2) from (1) term by term will eliminate the term in x

(x - x) + (10y - (- y)) = (29 - 7), that is

11y = 22 ( divide both sides by 11 )

y = 2

Substitute y = 2 in either of the 2 equations

Substituting in (2)

x - 2 = 7 ( add 2 to both sides )

x = 9
