For what value of p does the equation x^2-2px +(p+2)=0 have equal roots? ​

Answer:

From ax^2 +bx+c=0

For equal roots, b^2=4ac

From the question, b=-2p, a=1 and c=p+2

(-2p)^2=4(1)(p+2)

4p^2=4p+8

4p^2-4p-8=0

Solving the equation above,

p=-1 or p=2
