The length of a rectangle is 5.5 inches. The perimeter of the rectangle is greater than 32 inches. Which inequality shows the possible range of widths of the rectangle?

Perimeter 2l + 2w. Using this we can find your inequality equation.

32 = 2(5.5) + 2w

32 = 11 + 2w

21 = 2w

w = 10.5

This means that when the perimeter is 32 in, the width is 10.5 in. We want to know when perimeter is 32 in or greater so we can simply do:

w > 10.5 because anything above 10.5 will increase the perimeter.
