Explanation:

x = how much person 1 paid

y = person 2

w = person 3

z = person 4

y = 3x Eq1

x + y = w Eq2

y + w = z Eq3

x + y + w + z = 475,500 Eq4

Eq1 in Eq2

x + 3x = w

4x = w Eq5

and

y/3 + y = w

4y/3 = w Eq6

Eq5 in Eq3

y + 4y/3 = z

7y/3 = z Eq7

Eq1, 6, 7 in Eq4

y/3 + y + 4y/3 + 7y/3 = 475,500 Eq8

15y/3 = 475,500

5y = 475,500

y = 95,100

Eq1

y = 3x

95,100 = 3x

x = 95,100/3

x = 31,700

Eq2

x + y = w

31,700 + 95,100 = w

w = 126,800

Eq3

y + w = z

95,100 + 126,800 = z

z = 221,900

Person 1 : 31,700

Person 2 : 95,100

Person 3 : 126,800

Person 4 : 221,900
