It's a redox reaction, but it's an intermolecular redox reaction.

Carbon's oxidation number rises from zero to four, while oxygen's rises from zero to two.

Oxygen is reduced and carbon is oxidized.

Intermolecular redox reaction example:

1/2 O2 + KNO2 = KNO3

When KNO3 (+5) is heated, the nitrogen is reduced to KNO2 (+3), while the oxygen atom in KNO3 (-2) is oxidized to free oxygen ( 0 ).
