However, during the period of renaissance there were several great exploration, one was the circumnavigation of the earth by the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan between the period of 1519 to 1522. The result of this exploration made people believe that the earth was indeed spherical because the got back to the start point of the exploration and did not fall off the cliff of the earth as was previously erroneously believed.
