The slope of a perpendicular line is the negative inverse of the reference line. If the reference line is y=mx + b, with slope of m, the perpendicular line will have slope of -(1/m). The perpendicular line would take the form:

y = -(1/m)+b

Example: Reference Line: y = 2x + 2

Perpendicular Line: y = -(1/2)x + 2
