Were the Founding Fathers justified in rebelling against the British government and declaring independence?
In a well-developed essay that includes an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, explain whether or not the Founding Fathers were justified in declaring independence. Be sure to address counterclaims in your essay and include reasons and evidence to support your argument.

Yes, the founding fathers were justified in rebelling against the British government and declaring independence since they felt they were being taxed unfairly. The founding fathers also felt that Britain wasn’t protecting natural rights.

The colonists felt the taxation was unfair due to Britain putting many taxes on the people. The colonist wanted to be able to buy goods from wherever they felt like buying things. Britain had put these taxes on the colonist without their consent. Soon the colonist started to protest and Britain continued on taxing them unfairly.

The role of the government is to defend the rights. Once the government fails to defend the rights, the people have the right to rebel against the government and form a new one that defends the rights.

You should emphasize that the colonies didn’t have a say in parliament, essentially leaving them without a voice to speak with. You can also talk about the social contract and that in the eyes of John Locke, “any government that breaks this contract, it is up to the people to rise up.” A counterclaim can be that Great Britain needed money after the seven years war, and a refuting fact can be that the U.K definitely crossed the line and had many others streams of revenue. Those are just some thoughts.

You can explain which exactly taxes the British had enforced. You can also explain the relationship between Britain and US at that time. A Mother Country and a colony. You can also the few smaller reasons of why the US rebelled. Taxes was the breaking point.
