There are ten pennies and 5 quarters. 5x.25= 1.25. 10 pennies= .10. 1.25+.10= 1.35

Answer:

Explanation:

Let p = the pennies

Let q = the quarters.

p + q = 15

.01* p + .25q = 1.35 multiply the top equation by 0.01

.01 p + .01q = .15 Subtract

.24q = 1.20 Divide by 0.24

q = 1.20 / 0.24

q = 5

So there are 5 quarters.

p + q = 15

p + 5 = 15 Subtract 5 from both sides

p = 15 - 5 Combine

p = 10

the top equation p + q = 15 is the number of coins

The second equation is the value they have.
