Was the Civil War inevitable? Could anything have been done through compromise to stop it, or did it have to happen? In one paragraph, state your opinion and support it with your reasons. Include examples as evidence to strengthen your viewpoint.

Answer:

The Civil War was not inescapable until the Southern states seceded and founded the Confederacy. Even with the Force Act in existence, the Union could not guarantee that force would be used to retake the Southern states. The Civil War may have been avoided in a multitude of ways. Instead of resorting to violence, they may have called a gathering of elected officials to devise a plan for reunification. However, if an agreement was not made that might have ended up in War regardless.

Yes the American Civil War was inevitable because of the differences between the North and the South. The tensions about slavery and southern state rights were bound to explode along with calls for secession. The president at the time could not stop the civil war because originally the rest of the united states didn't take the secession seriously, that was until the south attacked a fort and raided it for ammunitions and supplies. At that point the civil war was inevitable.
