Explanation:

using algebra...

x and x+13 are the numbers

x+x+13=37

2x+13=37

2x=37-13

2x=24

x=24/2

x=12

x+13=25

12 and 25 are the numbers

using arithmetic...

37/2=18.5

Answer:

Large number: 25 Small number: 12

Explanation:

Let's say the large number is x

So the smaller number is x-13 since it says it's 13 less.

And the sum is 37 so (x)+(x-13)=37

2x-13=37

2x=50

x=25

Smaller number=x-13=25-13=12
