During the Great Depression, many American families were fearing economic hardships. This resulted in many family breakdowns as financial strains had major psychological effects. During the time of the Great Depression, the stereotype of how women were in the kitchen and cared for the kids while men were the "bread winner" was in effect. Men were suddenly unable to provide for their families financially. A relation to this saw America's national s**cide rate rise to never before seen highs in 1933. (research data on this).

Many family marriages were strained but many families could not afford to separate. Many families feared how they were going to get food on the table.

Hope this helps !!
