Explanation:

L1 x - 5y = 16

L2 4x - 2y = -8

4*L1 - L2

4x - 20y = 64

-4x + 2y = 8

-18y = 72

y = 72 / -18

y = -4

x - 5y = 16

x = 16 + 5y

x = 16 + 5(-4)

x = 16 - 20

x = -4
