Protestants promoted individualism by encouraging individuals to interpret the bible on their own without relying on the church and the interpretations of the priests. Vernacular Bibles such as the German one translated by Martin Luther allowed many Europeans to do so. Also, the introduction of Gutenberg's printing press in 1450 allowed for the mass publication of those bibles.
