(|Am+Bn+C|)/(√(A^2+B^2) )

For the point (- 1, 3 ) , with m = - 1 and n = 3

3x - 4y = 10 ( subtract 10 from both sides )

3x - 4y - 10 = 0

with A = 3 , B = - 4 , C = - 10

(|3(-1)+(-4)3-10|)/(√(3^2+(-4)^2) )

=
(|-3-12-10|)/(9+16)

=
(|-25|)/(√(25) )

=
(25)/(5)

= 5
