We have two equations :

x=y-9

5x+2y = 11

We just have to plug the value of x in the second equation to find y :

5(y-9) + 2y = 11

5y - 45 + 2y = 11

7y - 45 = 11

7y = 11 + 45

7y = 56

y = 56/7 = 8

Finally, since x = y -9

x = 8-9 = -1

Good Luck
