Question

So I’m writing a book that contains a character (the antagonist) who has a thing for power. I've gotten stuck on the plot because I don't know a way someone can literally force a person to lose their memories. I know I want it to happen I just don't know if there is a scientifically possible way it could happen because my story isn't a sci-fi/fantasy. I want the MC to eventually remember but I need her to lose them for the time being until then because it results in the build-up of the story. Does anyone have any suggestions?

A girl named Jessica has a power

It is called " Hearing ability" Which it means she can hear stuff that is miles away, She has it since 8, when it was her birthday she blew the candle and she went blank, When she woke up, she heard screaming sounds from her new neighbor, she came with her parents and saw something horrible, The girl which was screaming had her arms Broken, her father called the police and the police arrested the man, Thankfully the girl was ok and needed to rest, So her family treated her like a god, because she saved a persons life.
