Given -

two parallel lines with a transversal.

To find -

to find the value for x.

Concept applied -

Here in the figure, these two angles let's say 1 = 4x + 20° and 2 = 2x + 60° are corresponding angles. And we know that corresponding angles are equal. As all these angles that have the same position in leu the parallel lines and the transversal are corresponding pairs. Therefore, 1 = 2

Solution -

➙ 4x + 20° = 2x + 60°

➙ 4x - 2x = 60° - 20°

➙ 2x = 40°

➙ x = 40°/2

x = 20°

Henceforth, the value of x = 20°.

Answer and Step-by-step explanation:

To solve for x, we need to look at 2 deciding factors that allows us to be able to find x.

We are given 2 parallel lines, denoted by the arrow pointing right on the end of both of them, and a transversal line that cuts through the two lines. Because the lines are parallel, the angles that are formed by the transversal like will be equal or correspondent to each other in a few ways.

For the angles we are given, the angles are on the same side of the transversal line, and on the top of their respective parallel lines. Because of this, the angles are equal to each other.

To solve, set the two angles equal to each other.

4x + 20 = 2x + 60

Subtract the 2x from both sides of the equation.

2x + 20 = 60

Subtract the 20 from both sides of the equation.

2x = 40

Divide both sides by 2.

x = 20

x is equal to 20.
