Divide both sides by 2:

x +2y= 6 -----(2)

(2) ×5:

5x +10y= 30 -----(3)

(3) -(1):

5x +10y -(5x +3y)= 30 -23

Expand, simplify:

5x +10y -5x -3y= 7

Divide both sides by 7:

7y= 7

y= 7 ÷7

y= 1

Substitute y= 1 into (2):

x +2(1)= 6

x +2= 6

x= 6 -2

x= 4
