A baker uses the expression 6.75c + 2.25p to calculate his profit when he sells c cakes and p pies. What is the baker’s profit in dollars if he sells 15 cakes and 23 pies.

Well we’re given the variables of the given expression .

C is cakes

P is pies

So the baker makes $6.75 for every cake he sells whilst $2.25 for every pie he sells.

Well we know that he sold 15 cakes and 23 pies so we can substitute

6.75*15 + 2.25*23

Now we solve

You’d get 153 if you solved this following the order of operations.

Multiplication -> Division (Left to right and whichever comes first. EX: 6÷3*2 is 4 if you solve it correctly from left to right, 6 divided by 3 is 2. Whilst 2 times 2 is 4)
