I believe its B, voice! A piece of string is not the theme/main idea since it is not a life lesson or lesson learned. It is not C because the place where the story takes place cannot be a piece of string, therefore, it’s B!

(Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure xx)

Final answer:

The excerpt from the short story 'A Piece of String' primarily assists in developing the setting. The location, time, and action all contribute to this.

Step-by-step explanation:

Based on the excerpt from the short story "A Piece of String", the element most advanced would be the Setting. The statement "In the evening, he took a turn in the village of Breaute." helps establish a context for where and when certain events are taking place. Descriptions like these help to craft a tangible sense of place in a story, thus assisting in the development of the setting. The village of Breaute, the time of day (evening), and the action (taking a turn) all contribute to painting a picture of the setting for the reader.
