Hong's Coffee Shop makes a blend that is a mixture of two types of coffee. Type A coffee costs Hong  $5.80  per pound, and type B coffee costs  $4.20  per pound. This month's blend used four times as many pounds of type B coffee as type A, for a total cost of  $700.60 . How many pounds of type A coffee were used?​

Explanation:

Let x = the number of lbs of Type A coffee.

We know that this month's blend used 4 times as many pounds of type B coffee as type A coffee.

Total lbs of coffee = x + 4x

The total cost then is:

($ cost for Type A)(x) + ($ cost for Type B)(3x) = $700.60

$5.80x + $4.20(4x) = $700.60

$5.80x + $16.8x = $700.60

$22.6x = $700.60

x = 31 lbs

Therefore they where 31 pounds of type A coffee used.
