Explanation:

that's the only way, unless you want to get into logs, on that case, we can set the equation as 3/8 = x^y

from here we take log y both sides and get

logy(3/8) = x

and here we get 3/8 = y^x

solving this we see that x^y = y^x

we know that y has to equal 0 or 1 or x equals 0 or 1

but neither can equal 0, so y has to equal 1 and x equals 3/8 :)
