let y = f(x) and rearrange making x the subject

y = -
(1)/(4) x +
(3)/(2) ( multiply through by 4 to clear the fractions )

4y = - x + 6 ( subtract 6 from both sides )

4y - 6 = - x ( multiply through by - 1 )

- 4y + 6 = x

Change y back into terms of x with x =
f^(-1) (x) , then


f^(-1) (x) = 6 - 4x
