To solve this problem use the perimeter formula
P=2l+2w

So here we have 1 as the width and w-6 as the length
P=2(w-6) + 2(1)

So we multiply 2(w) 2(-6) to get 2w-12

So because 2 times 1 is 2 the perimeter would be
P=2w-12 + 2

Simplified would be
P=2w-10

because -12 + 2 = 10
