exercise judgment, and take responsibility within his/her own limits of
competence?

An important reason to have a code of ethics for professional engineers is it sets a standard for professional behavior. ... The standard of professional behavior provides the people who you work with and for a foundation of trust that you are going to operate in the project's and public's best interest.

Professional ethics are principles that govern the behaviour of a person or group in a business environment. Like values, professional ethics provide rules on how a person should act towards other people and institutions in such an environment.
