how do ion-ion bonds, ion-dipole bonds and van der wall forces affect boiling or melting of substances?

When two polar molecules interact, opposite partial charges attract, similarly to ionic bonding, but generally weaker, because of the smaller charge magnitude. Because of these dipole-dipole forces, polar compounds tend to have higher melting and boiling points than nonpolar compounds.

Hope this helps love!
