Why does sound travel farther in winter and in cold air?

Answer in 4-5 complete sentences.

(I understand that it could travel farther in winter as the trees are not as leaf-ey, so less to go through. I just don't understand why it goes farther in cold air.)

Because sound moves faster in warm air than colder air, the wave bends away from the warm air and back towards the the ground.
