5x+20=x-10

1. Subtract x from both sides which will give you 4x+20=-10

2. Subtract 20 on each side of the equation which will give you 4x=-30

3. Divide 4 on both sides to leave x by itself and you will get

5x+20=x-10
-x -x
———————
4x+20=-10
-20 -20
———————
4x=-30

4x/4=-30/4

X=-30/4

-30/4 can reduce to -15/2 so x=-15/2

Hope that helps

Answer:

-7.5

Explanation:

5x+20=x-10

Subtract x from both sides to have the variable on one side of the equation:

4x+20=-10

Subtract 20 from both sides of the equation to isolate the variable:

4x=-30

Divide both sides by 4 to find x:

x=-30/4=-7.5
