Explanation:

first multiply equation 2 with (+2)

5x-2y=4

6x+2y=18

now add equation 1 to equation 2

11x=22

x=2 now substitute x=2 in equation 1 or 2

5(2)-2y=4 10-2y=4 -2y=4-10 -2y=-6 y=3
