How is reading a narrative different from a dramatic performance?

When reading a narrative, you can envision the way you see the characters, and imagine different voices belonging to them. In a dramatic performance, the director creates the characters the way he/she sees them, and puts them on the stage for everyone to see them in the way they see it. More creativity and imagination is involved in a narrative.
