The price of an apple is 2/3 of the price of orange . If I bought 6 apples and 3 oranges and spent $18 . What is the price of apple ?

Answer:

one apple costs $1.71

Explanation:

let 'y' = price of an orange

let '2/3y' = price of an apple

6(2/3y) + 3y = 18

4y + 3y = 18

7y = 18

y = 18/7 or 2.57

2/3(2.57) = 1.71
