A triangle has sides with lengths of 6 feet, 16 feet, and 17 feet. Is it a right triangle?

Explanation:

This is not a right triangle. Use the Pythagorean Theorem,
a^(2) + b^(2)=c^(2) \\, but write it as
c^(2)= a^(2)+b^(2). The hypotenuse would be 17 feet, so you can insert 17 as
c^(2).
a and
b could be 6 or 16. It can be written either way. The simplified equation would be:


c^(2)=a^(2) +b^(2) \\17^(2) = 6^(2) + 16^(2) \\17^(2) = 36+ 256\\17^(2)= 292\\289\\eq 292

This isn't a right triangle.
