Explanation:

a) Since it is division, you just subtract the powers from each other


b^(7) /b^(4) =b^(7-4) =b^(3)

b) First add the powers on the top, then divide


(x^(1) *x^(5) )/(x^(2) *x^(1) ) =(x^(1+5) )/(x^(2+1) ) =(x^(6) )/(x^(3) ) =x^(6-3) =x^(3)
