Write the quadratic equation whose roots are -2 and -6, and whose leading coefficient is 1.

To have a root of -2, you want a factor of (x+2) in your equation.

To have a root of -6, you want a factor of (x+6) in your equation.

Multiplying those together, you have y=(x+2)(x+6) or y=x^2+8x+12

This also has a leading coefficient of 1.
