the area of the rectangular pen is 52m. if the length is 5 meter more than twice the width, which of the following are the dimensions of yhe pen?​

Dimension of the pen: 13x4

Explanation:

area = 52m²

width = x (I'd put 'w' but let's work with 'x' cause we are used to)

length = 2x + 5

x * (2x + 5) = 52

2x² + 5x = 52

2x² + 5x - 52 = 0 (that's a quadratic equation)

delta = 5² - 4*2*(-52)

delta = 25 + 416

delta = 441

x1 = (-5 +
√(441)) / 2*2

x1 = (-5 + 21) / 4

x1 = 16 / 4

x1 = 4

width = 4

x2 = (-5 - 21) / 4

x2 = -26 / 4

x2 = -6.5 (cannot be this one for width because it's a negative value)

length = 2 * 4 + 5

length = 8 + 5

length = 13

PS: I don't know if there is an easier way to do it but that's the one I figured.
