Answer: Let x = the number

Then:

2x = twice the number

2x -3 = the difference of twice a number and 3

2x � 3 = 11 �. This is the equation set up to be solved

2x � 3 + 3 = 11 + 3

2x = 14

2x/2 = 14/2
