First convert 2 1/2 into a number that is just a fraction.

2 = 4/2 so 4/2 + 1/2 = 5/2

Now you can multiply the two fractions to find the area.

area = 5 5 25

To simplify this, you know 16/16 = 1 so subtract 16 from the numerator which leaves 9/16

Your answer will be 1 and 9/16
