No matter whether you are talking about vibrations or waves, all of them can be characterized by the following four characteristics: amplitude, wavelength, frequency, and speed. The amplitude of a wave can be described as the maximum distance the molecules are displaced from their starting place .

Waves all have an amplitude which is the height of the wave from sea level, wavelengths which is the distance between crest to crest or trough to trough. Waves also have a frequency which is the number of waves that pass in a given amount of time. Another characteristic of a wave is wave speed. A wave speed is a pace that a wave travels in a given amount of time. (I HOPE THAT HELPED :))
