Here's how we do that:

We know 9 and 5 are correlating sides because of where they are in relation to the right angle. We can find out how much smaller 5 is than 9 by dividing 9 by 5.

9 ÷ 5 = 1.8

This means that x is going to be bigger than 8 by a multiple of 1.8.

8 × 1.8 = x

14.4 = x
