$y = mx + c \\ 6 = 3m + c...(1) \\ - 2 = 7m + c...(2) \\ subtract \: (2) - (1) \\ 4m = - 8 \\ \therefore \: m = - 2 \: sub \: in \: (1) \\ 6 = 3( - 2) + c \\ \therefore \: c = 12 \\ \boxed{y = - 2x + 12}$
