The plague was called the "Black Death" because most people who got the epidemic passed away, and because it was a bubonic plague there was no cure at the time. They called it that because of how bad it was, and it ended the lives of many.

What were some of the common symptoms?

Some common symptoms of the "Black Death" were that the patients developed a sudden fever, headache, and chills and gradually grew weak because of their swollen and painful lymph nodes.
