Answer:

297 is the surface area

Explanation:

Ok this problem is very simple.

First lets define some equations.

Area of a triangle: A = 1/2BH

A = Area B = Base H = Height

This equation works for right triangles only.

(because 2 right triangles make a square which is why it's multiplied by 1/2 because it's half a square).

Area of a square: A = BH

Surface area equals all the areas of each side added together.

First lets find the area of one of the triangles.

We know 11 is the base and 8 is the height but the triangle isn't a right triangle.

To make it a right triangle divide the base by 2 so 11/2.

You will get 5.5.

Now find the area!

A = 1/2BH

A = 1/2(5.5)(8)

A = 1/2(44)

A = 22

So now we found the area of the right side as a right triangle but you must multiply it by 2 to get the entire side (because we divided the base by 2).

22(2)=A

44=A

44 is the area of one side of the pyramid but there are 3 other sides (not including the base).

So just do:

44+44+44+44 = A

176 = A

Surface area for the triangles is 176!

Now we must find the area of the square.

A = BH

A = 11(11)

A = 121

Total surface area is all the areas added together so it's:

121+176=A

297
