6x + 2y = 20 → (1)

5x - 2y = 2 → (2)

Adding the 2 equations term by term will eliminate the y- term

11x + 0 = 22

11x = 22 ( divide both sides by 2 )

x = 2

Substitute x = 2 into either of the 2 equations and solve for y

Substituting into (1)

6(2) + 2y = 20

12 + 2y = 20 ( subtract 12 from both sides )

2y = 8 ( divide both sides by 2 )

y = 4

solution is (2, 4 )
