This equation is formed because you are subtracting 5 from 3 times a number, and to do all of this first, you need to figure out what 3 times a number equals (so it goes into the parentheses). From there, all you need to do is give a value that would substitute the question mark (normally you use a variable like n, x, y, etc.). This value would be 5, because 3 x 5 = 15 and 15 - 5 = 10.
