If AB = x + 3, BC = 2x and AC = 4x – 5, then for what value of ‘x’, B lies on AC?

Answer:

If B lies on AC then AC is a straight line with point B on it.

then,

AB + BC = AC

x + 3 + 2x = 4x - 5

3x + 3 = 4x - 5

3 + 5 = 4x - 3x

8 = x

x = 8.
