Hello there, I'm not great at English, would someone mind skipping through my homework to make sure there is no abomination please ?
I would be really grateful
This story happened 5 years ago when I was 16 or so.
For the summer holidays, I had some things to deal with that happened to be on the same date as
the departure date for the annual family trip.
As such, I told my family to go first with their car to Alicante (Spain) and that I would join them later
by bus.
So I booked a direct bus ticket from Lille to Spain since planes are way too expensive .It should
have taken only 16 hours , so no problem at all since I'm used to travelling.
But, that's not what happened. From the moment I took this bus untill the time I got to my family,
more than 25 hours had passed !!
Firstly, we had the big chance of being chosen for border control, and as I had the best of luck ever,
I had taken transport pills just an hour earlier.
I was so drowsy and unresponsive that the customs officers thought I was on drugs, and of course
they spoke only Spanish (a language which I knew of only from songs like « vamos a la playa »). So
I had a full check before a French customs officer came, and I could finally explain myself and clear
the situation out.
But if this had been the only trouble on this bus trip, it would have been a perfect trip. Except it
wasn't. After arriving in Barcelona, the bus driver (who speaks only Spanish) told us something and
dropped us at the nearest bus station.
After an hour of waiting at the information point to find out what was happening, I finally understood
what all of this was about. The last bus had a broken engine or something, and I had to wait for an
undetermined laps of time for a new bus to come to our rescue.
As I didn't want to travel with money on me and my credit card didn't work in Spain because
apparently as a minor I didn't have that right, I couldn't even eat anything. It was already 8PM and
long gone was my lunch pack.
At 9 PM, we were finally sent to a brand-new bus and everything was looking fine, untill it wasn't
anymore. Indeed, the bus did bring us to Alicante, but it didn't stop where it should have, and of
course my father, who was to pick me up, couldn't know that since my phone wasn't working.
So I ended up alone at 11PM in a foreign country (which I couldn't speak the language) with no
phone, no money, and I hadn't eaten anything other than a sandwich for the whole day.
In the end, after another hour of wandering around and asking questions, I found a telephone boot !!
I inserted my one and only Euro in the hope it would work and it did. I then contacted my father to
tell him where I was and he came to pick me up 15 minutes later.
